The Take-A-Kid-Fishing Rodeo is held in conjunction with the National Fishing Foundation and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency's Free Fishing Day. Kids will NOT need a license or permit on this day.
Fishing - and competing - in three age categories, children 16 and under can try their luck at "Hooking the Big One" for FREE. Age groups will be ages 0-7; 8-12; and 13-15. Prizes will be given in each category. The banks of Birdsong Marina will be reserved for kids only from 8 a.m until 10 a.m. Registration and check in begins at 7 a.m.
Bait is provided, but fishermen should bring their rod and reels. A limited number of "loaners" will be available to those not owning one.
Chaperones should bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the show. Hot dogs, lemonade and ice cream provided. Pool and playground open free of charge to participants immediately following Kid's Fishing Rodeo.
Winners in the 0-7 and 9-12 categories of this event go on to compete for one of four $5,000.00 scholarships to be presented by Crappie USA's Crappie Kids.
